Role Play Media Network

a community for rpg bloggers, podcasters, vidcasters, and their audiences

While it's not something we wanted to do, the recent flood of spammers taking advantage of the open-door policy on new memberships has been quite a problem. For the time being, with Berin's approval, I have set RPMN to "approval" mode, meaning new members must be approved by a member of the Brute Squad. Never fear, we'll approve anybody who isn't actually a spammer -- and yes, we know how to spot spammers -- but this should keep the online pharmacy spam out.

I wonder if Bell ever imagined telemarketers. Oh what evils innovation unleashes.

Sadly, this is the most effective way to handle Spammers on Forums. The automated systems can really be abused by the spammers. So taking some of the automation out is the only way to prevent them from spreading their spam.

It's a shame it had to come to this, but I'm glad you're taking measures against spammers.

I already declined a few requests. These guys don't give up so easily.
